Sad News From 1st Ward
I had a bad morning today. Everything was going wrong. I kept forgetting things, I was running late, Ben was screaming at me. I finally got myself together and in the car headed to the babysitter and I was relenting my bad fortune (after realizing I had also left my phone at home but was too far to turn back) and I thought about a man in our ward we just heard bad news about and felt incredibly guilty for weighing so heavily on my own small misfortunes.
Mark Evans, as some of you may know, is an avid motorcyclist. On Tuesday he was cruising the streets of Arlington as we often see him doing. He was stopped at a red light, it turned green. He went, a lady then ran HER red light hitting him. He was conscious after being hit, but broke his 3rd, 4th and 5th vertebrae leaving him parylized from the chest down! John said he'll also be having surgery to hopefully regain movement in his arms. It's a tragically sad thing that has happened. You hear about it all the time, but it kind of hits you hard when it's someone you know. He and his wife have 4 kids, one is on a mission and their daughter left BYU after the news, his wife is the woman who made our wedding cake. Brother Evans is our scoutmaster and just a generally really nice guy. John and I were talking about it last night and he strikes us as the kind of person that would only see the good in something like this and we hope that's the case! Keep their family in your prayers: Mark, Maria, Trent, Jesse, Garrett and Gordon Evans. I'm sure they need it right now!
Gordan Evans was one of my Primary kids back in the day! Hearing something like that does make our trials seems far less significant, and really helps put into perspective what truly is important in life. We will add them to our list of families we pray for. Keep us posted on his condition.
