Credit Where Credit is Due
Ben is still pretty young and I think I don't give him enough credit sometimes for how aware and sometimes smart he can be. Before we leave in the mornings, I usually hand him my keys and tell him it's time to go so that he can prepare himself. He'll usually walk to the door with my keys and will say "Go?" over and over (well, it sort of sounds like Go, anyway!) while trying to put the keys in the doorknob. I had a few things to round up before we actually left and by the time I was ready he didn't have the keys anymore. I asked him where my keys were and he looks at me smiles and walks off. I walk around looking while asking "Benjamin, where are Mommy's keys?" He kept ignoring me and playing with the box of diapers in the floor of the living room. After about 5 minutes of looking I pointed to the doorknob and ask him where my keys are. He goes over to the box again and I followed him and then realized my keys were shoved down at the bottom of the box, stuck between the two packs of diapers inside. I was sure then that he had seen me open that box of diapers earlier in the day with my keys! So he knew where the keys were and was trying to tell me. I know it's just a small thing, but I still really am amazed at how much he is learning and picking up from the world around him. A little scary, actually!
He is such a good kid... and a smartie! I am amazed to watch these little ones grow and develop! It is such a miraculous thing to see them turn into people rather than blobs. :-)
Well, with such amazing parents, what did you expect?!
Go Ben. I think we definitely underestimate their body language, especially. I'm amazed at how well they can communicate by their actions.
