Being a little better...

John and I have had lots of conversations about doing better, being better, especially since Ben is at such an impressionable age and we haven't put forth a real effort to teach him about the Gospel. So we started last night by doing a mini Family Home Evening. We never rarely have FHE. Ben doesn't have a very long attention span and we always forget. Really lame excuses, right? So last night I went on lds.org and looked through the Nursery manual "Behold Your Little Ones" and it's the perfect FHE resource if you have little kids! We're starting at the beginning and will do all the lessons in this book. Last night we started with I Am a Child of God. In the lesson it said to have each child come to the front of the class and say that "So and So is a Child of God." And repeat it for every kid. So we used the photo album my mom gave us of pictures from Fossil Rim and pointed to Ben's cousins and would say "Mary is a Child of God. Abby is a Child of God. Anna is a Child of God." He wasn't really paying attention but we went through the whole book a few times anyway.

This morning he wanted to take that photo album in the car and as we pulled off the freeway close to his school he starts pointing at all the pictures in the book and saying "Mary Child God. Abby Child God. Grandma Child God." It was really really cute. And cool. And we'll keep doing it!

It IS hard to remember and have FHE, but man we totally need to! How awesome that even though it may not have seemed like he was listening, he WAS! Thanks for the tip on the nursery manual!

Oh Missy! That's an awesome idea! We kinda slack with FHE as well and I'm totally using your idea! Thanks!

Wow. I am going to buy this book. I need a manual for FHE, I'm just not good at comng up with that stuff by myself. It looks like the perfect solution/incentive!

That's great. Don't feel bad about not having FHE. WE are horrible about it too. We did great this summer. We never missed a week. Since school has started, we have only had it three times. We're trying to do better too. I like your idea. We'll have to use it too.

That manual is super awesome. Lessons are basic and to the point!! Good idea for using it for FHE! It was never a constant thing when I was growing up and I regret that!! So hopefully we can get it started, too!! THX for the info!
