Suffering from Exhaustion
Holidays do a number on me. John and I like to stay up late even though you really can't sleep in with a 2-year old in the house. We watch movies and play on our computers and do absolutely nothing and love it. But going back to work is hard because we still want to stay up late and it's really taken a toll on me this week.
Yesterday was a whirlwind of a day. I picked Ben up right at 2pm but he was still asleep and did not want to get up. We drove home and I changed so I didn't have to go in heels and slacks and drove all the way to Mesquite and luckily avoided the traffic since it was only after 3pm. The dealership didn't actually take all that long. And the salesman we were working with let us take it for a drive by ourselves. While we were sitting in the finance guy's office seeing if they could better the credit union offer (which they couldn't) I looked at Ben and realized he had a poopy diaper. I brought one diaper with me, which I used as soon as we got there since I didn't have time to change it when we got home. Thankfully we were almost done with the paperwork so I signed what I needed to, took Ben and we started the long drive home. John would be behind me shortly in the new ride.
Traffic was bad, too. And Ben was hungry and poopy and screaming a lot. Making horrible squeaking noises on the balloon they gave him because we sat in traffic not moving for about 20 minutes. Right after we got through the traffic from an accident I spotted a McDonald's. We stopped and got dinner which I let Ben eat in the car. He pretty much ate every bit of it, too, which is a rarity. The kid just doesn't eat!
We weren't far from home by this time and so I stopped at our house, ran up, grabbed a couple of diapers and wipes and made the second leg of our trip to the Stake Center. I did a powerpoint for one of the rooms and it had to get set up. This was not an easy feat. The laptop was missing, took 20 minutes to find. Then they couldn't find the projector, which finally showed up around 8:00pm. John had already left to take Ben down to his brother's house since I'd be following after that to take my sister her car back BUT it needed to be cleaned and vacuumed first!
I was finally done at the Stake Center about 8:15 and headed straight to Mark's. It was toasty and warm because they had a fire going (there is now firewood in the back of my car in preparation for tonight). John's parents are still here so it was great to see them again, even though John I spent most of the time outside cleaning the car! We emptied it, vacuumed it and headed to take it back to my sister. Then we drove to my mom's to drop off some of the stuff we borrowed from her for a photo shoot so we wouldn't have to lug it around in the new car.
A few Reese's Miniatures and a couple of Diet Cokes later (thieved from my mom's never-ending stash), we headed home. It was 9:45pm. Ben was in bed a little after 10:15. We sorted through our emails, fawned over the car a little wishing we could go for a drive, I did my nightly routine of getting everything ready for the next day and a little after 11:30 we were in bed.
I know it doesn't sound like the busiest day ever but it sure felt that way. Lots of high points though, as always. We got a new car! I got off work early which a rare afternoon together we don't normally get. As a trade-off for the powerpoint Jan got me this (Sigh, I love her). We got a preview of the Stake Nativity Display and it's going to be absolutely gorgeous, everyone should go! So much hard work was put into it and I was happy to be involved like I always am (I design the publicity every year). We got to see John's parents again and they had fun playing with Ben. It was super cold and crawling into a warm bed has never felt better.
So going to sleep early tonight though. I'm exhausted. Not sure I'm going to survive December!
It can't get more hectic than that, can it? Hopefully, things will slow down and you can enjoy the season and your new car! By the way, how many miles did it have on it?
Wow! That does sound like a very busy day, but fun too! And yay for the train pan! Jan is so nice!
Dude, thats SUCH a hectic day...especially since its not like you were sitting around twiddling your thumbs BEFORE 2pm!! Glad it's over!!
I love that they do that nativity display every year, its always so beautiful!
What was not hectic? Sounds like my whole week! And after having the girls all day yesterday and listening to Mary say not just "why", but "why, why why?" after every comment (thanks, Jared!), I can really appreciate having to deal with the 2-year-old!
