That totally weirds me out
Do you have those things that totally weird you out? I have a few things on my list.
Late last night before the Mavs game started (which we couldn't watch anyway) John got a hankering for a Coke. So I grabbed a dollar and enough change for a Coke for me (duh) and headed over to the Coke machine by the pool. It's a long walk, but hey I need the exercise! I got there and tried to stick the dollar in. Wouldn't go. I tried again. Still no bueno. SIGH. Then a huge pigeon zooms past me up on to a perch under the pavilion. I look over and there's about six of them. And then they start their charades of completely freaking me out. They'd swoosh right past me going back and forth from perch to perch. Then they'd talk in their little creepy pigeon talk and flap their wings ever 2 seconds, while zooming past me. I just wanted a Coke! So I stuck my quarters in, pushed the button for Coke Zero and out came a Diet Coke. I'd have to go back to the pigeon lair to get John a real Coke. I tried the dollar one more time for good measure and ran off when it didn't work. I did go home, get a few dimes and quarters and came out with a regular Coke unscathed. I HATE pigeons. They totally creep me out!
Earlier in the evening we drove up to Cabela's to spend time with John's parents since they leave on Thursday. We like for Ben to spend as much time with them as possible. While we were there we went to the walk-through aquarium which I SWEAR in the 5 or 6 times we've been there I have never seen this! But it's okay, because huge fish creep me out, too. I could tell Ben was a little weirded out too, but he seemed to like most of the fish. I just think really big fish are bizarre. Even when we go to the pet store, there are always huge versions of the fish we have (Black Moors) and if ours ever got that big I'm not sure what I will do with myself! So at Cabela's they have all these trout and big versions of tank fish you can buy at Walmart. And most of them just sit there and flap their fins. They don't swim around, they just kind of sit there and stare. Creepy!
Anyway. I haven't had a lot to blog about lately. We're enjoying ourselves these days. I'm still kind of adjusting to staying home, doing lots of freelancing, and finding things to fill our day with. What do you stay-at-home-moms do all day? Any ideas for good toddler activities? Anything happen to you to totally creep you out, too?
Oh, and send me potty training success strategies. I'm at a loss. :)
As far as creepy things, birds zooming at your head is definitely high on the list. Scary!
It does get hard sometimes to fill a whole day with activities. Some mornings are honestly just lazy mornings filled with PBS kids. Other times any art projects or trips to the park or library take up a good chunk of time. Brady just discovered a love for watercolors, and that is very easy to clean up.
As far as potty training? Lots of patience. We just kind of let Brady decide when he was ready, mostly b/c I didn't want to fight with him about it!
You know what creeps me? Finding giant spiders in the laundry! Scary, and hard to catch.
I hate birds! We have territorial birds who have nests in our trees, and they freak me out! I saw one attacking another bird the other day! The other bird just fell right out of the sky and landed on the front lawn! After a couple of minutes it got up and flew off. Scary. I always think the stupid bird is going to do that to me!
As far as stuff to do at home, I mainly just play outside with the boys, or take them to the store. They're pretty easy, and don't require a lot of activities to keep them entertained. They mostly just do it themselves. It will be WAY different when Tommy goes to school next year, though.
And with potty training, you just have to be consistent and stick with it. It takes a lot of repetition.
Lets see... it is 3:30 and I am still in my pajama's/work out clothes. I have not showered today but I have clean the house. The girls have played in the playroom, watched Mary Poppins and taken naps... yup... I am not very good at filling up day with things. But, I guess that is just how life is a part of the time as a stay at home mom.
Creepy things... Well, I don't mind spiders and cockaroaches except when the move right after I think I have killed them. Then I get pretty creeped out!
Potty training I have no strategies... just a prayer for your sanity. The good news is that after all of your hard work, a few months from now it will just click for Ben and he will start doing it on his own... in the mean time, just try to stay sane and take a break from it when it gets to be too much. :-)
The apostrophe with last names is SUCH a common thing. Christmas time with neighbor gifts is the worst. To the Collmar's from the Leslie's. AH!
We finally got Lorelai potty trained by putting the real panties on. She didn't like wetting in them. We also took her to the potty every hour rather she needed to go or not. We are trying with Matilda now. She asks to go some, but we are just trying to get her to go as soon as she gets up.
We have lots of days filled with coloring, painting, pasting, and playing with toys. We take trips to Walmart just to look at the toy isles. We don't buy, just look. It can get boring for me, but Emily loves it.
And for the potty training, we used Potty Prizes. I went to Target and bought some stickers and cut them up in sections to give each time she peepee'd. Also, I found a pack of farm animals and horses for cheap. I'd just give her one animal at a time. It worked! When she had the peepee part down, I told her we ran out of peepee prizes and then we focused on going #2. Now she is in panties all day and pull-ups at night with very few accidents!
Good luck!
