Why 4-year-olds are Funny

1. Around the 4th of July, Shelby had a few days where she was SUPER cranky. One particular morning was no exception. Ben was really tired from two nights of staying up way too late because of 4th of July festivities, so he was sprawled on the couch under a blanket while I was trying to get a restless Shelby to take a nap. After a few screaming fits from her, Ben turns to me and says, "Mom. I'm allergic to babies."

2. We see commercials for seafood restaurants a lot on tv and Ben thinks it's so gross. But he insists that when he's "a daddy" he will like to eat fish. More specifically, when he's 45 years old he will eat lobster.

3. Ben thinks only dads go to college. So he always says he can't wait till he's "a daddy" so he can go to college.

4. Have you seen Toy Story 3? Well there's this monkey in it and Ben's a little terrified of the monkey (for good reason). The thing overlooks the entire day care center to make sure no toys escape. Ben hates this part. He told me that when we go to the post office we have to behave ourselves or the monkey will get us. I kept trying to figure out why he thought this and realized there's a surveillance camera at the post office that looks just like the one in the movie. I'm still debating whether to go with it as a way to get him to behave in line at the post office or tell him the monkey isn't really behind that camera watching us.

5. When he plays "this little monkey" with Shelby's toes he always changes it up. "This little monkey went to college." "This little monkey went to jail." "This little monkey went to Target." "This little monkey went to time-out."

6. Anytime there's a really beautiful sunset and lots of clouds in the sky Ben insists that's where Jesus lives, up in those clouds.

7. Ben sneezed the other day and came over to me and told me that he'd just sneezed and that he was now having a "germ party."

8. The first time Ben ever watched me change Shelby's diaper he was really confused. He wanted to know why she didn't have a "pee pee." I waited a second to respond and before I could he goes, "Oh! She doesn't have a pee pee, she just has a booty in the front AND the back!"

Here are a few pics I took of Ben last week as an impromptu 4-year session. We headed to Grapevine to the vintage railroad sine Ben is still completely obsessed with trains. I love this kid! He drives me absolutely crazy most days, but I still love him to death!

I used to think Jesus lived in pretty sunsets too. And don't worry, Ben. That monkey freaks me out too.

He's just gorgeous!

I laughed so loud when I read the "booty in front and back". Mary came out because she was concerned that I was laughing so much. Thanks for sharing about Ben... he is such a great kids!

Love Ben's pictures. He is adorable. I also like the reflection of you in his glasses! Mommy is always there.
