Someone Tried to Steal John's Jeep!

Last night John and I went to dinner at On the Border in North Arlington with Seth Porter and his girlfriend/fiancee, Macy and some friends of theirs. We had a lot of fun and had planned on going to the Dallas Auto Show afterwards. We left the restaurant around 8:30pm and headed to the Porter's van and were going to carpool and leave John's Jeep at the restaurant. They were parked on the same row and as we walked closer to John's Jeep everyone noticed right away that the driver's side blinker was on. When we got even closer we realized it was running. Now John's Jeep has been known to do some strang things, but Macy saw a silver car peel out of the parking lot that was parked right behind the Jeep. There were two Hispanics in the car. It turns out that the reason why the Jeep was running is because they were TRYING TO STEAL IT!

They broke in through the passenger side door and had break the steering column (which John JUST had replaced) to start the Jeep. Luckily no windows were broken and nothing was stolen. If we had gotten there any later the Jeep would have been gone and we don't know why they didn't just drive off with it when they saw us coming. A parking lot attendant for valet said he saw two guys in a silver car with the Jeep but he thought they were trying to fix it. Right. We called the police and they took a report and ended up not going to the car show. All the guys were really mad and John was really upset. These are John's off-roading buddies so they had plenty of sympathy for him. We ended up going to Starbucks since it was pretty cold outside and had a good time. The night ended good, but it's never a good day when someone tries to steal your car!

I can't even fathom what might have happened to those two guys if we had gotten to the Jeep any sooner...
