Eczema!!

Now I am not one to post my personal "issues" freely on the blog because you know, I'm just not like that. But I need help!

Yesterday John and I were sitting on the couch watching TV in front of a great fire. My face was getting hot because I was right next to it. My lips have been super chapped for about a week. I realized after a while that my face kept getting hotter and I felt it, only to realize that I had some sort of bumpy rash on my cheek. I jumped up and ran to the mirror and sure enough, I had a huge red patch of what I'm hoping is eczema on my cheek. It continued to spread to the other cheek through the day and is still running rampant. I get eczema on my arms during the winter and Ben has a pretty good case of it on his chest and back but I've never had anything like this before! What do I do to make it go away?? I want my smooth skin back, and I want it now!

John swears it doesn't look as bad as I think it feels so hopefully he's right...

Oh Missy!!! From the mommy of an eczema prone child, I totally feel for you! If I'm correct, there isn't much you can do without irritating or spreading it. It's gotta be the weather. It could also be a heat rash...maybe the fire got to you? (You like my self-diagnosis? All those years of being a therapist...) Keep it moisturized and clean and lay off the citrus for a few days. Well, that's what I would do for Madyson!! Good luck!!

Ohh! I get it on my arms and hands (I have a little right now), and my lips get dry a lot. I think it's the dry air and artificial heat (but then, I get it pretty bad during the summer, too). I use Aquaphor (it's so soothing, and a little goes a long way -- I use it on my lips too, so you can probably use it on your face). (I use to have it really bad when I was a baby -- I would get it on my bottom, and my mom would have to give me oatmeal baths.)

Well, my sister the nurse tells me to put lotion on my eczema and it usually does the trick. Mine seems to flare up in cold, dry weather, but also seems to get bad when I'm stressed out.... Good luck! I think you're beautiful, and a little eczema's not going to change that!
