Sick, Sippy, Stupid
John got the flu last week and it's been all I can do to sanitize our house to prevent me and Ben from getting it, too. John is feeling better but still has an awful cough. Meanwhile I developed the congestion and cough on Friday night but thankfully without the other flu symptoms. I feel worse today than I have all weekend so I'm doing the most I can to stay hydrated and Vitamin C'd and medicine'd up to stay healthy! Ben has a small cough but is otherwise okay. So may people we know have had the flu and everyone in my office has gotten sick so it's only a matter of time. I am praying we can all stay healthy!
On a side note I had a conversation with my sister Ginny last night because my mom had mentioned something about sippy cups being linked to speech delays. It's something to do with the sippy cup doing all of the work for you and you don't learn proper control over your tongue. Now, this isn't a proven fact or anything, but since speech issues are prevalent in our family I thought I'd take her advice and run with it. I don't think Ben is delayed, maybe a little, but he doesn't say M-, P-, or B-words at all. Ginny said it might be because when you use a sippy cup the opening gets larger so their lips aren't used to being close together, which is how you form those words. So we're going to keep Ben on cups with straws for the time being and have our own little experiment to see if it works. If any of you have kids that are susceptible to speech delays then you might give it a try!
And I just have to send Mark Cuban a big YOU SUCK for even thinking of trading away my Devin Harris for Jason Kidd? I think you're making such a big mistake. Devin is young, talented and with a few seasons and some more training he could be awesome. I mean he's already proven to be a huge asset to Dallas. I will have a really hard time forgiving you for this, Mark!
**Update. I now have a fever of over 100˚ so all I can say about that is GREEAAATTT...
Devin Harris is my all-time favorite Mavs player. Diop is my other one, and what does stupid Cuban do? He trades away the good players!!!! Um, hello? Do I need to mention Nash? I'm so mad! I used to think Cuban was okay, but now I just think he's a big, fat, stupid, idiot. I know. Harsh. But he deserves it! I DO NOT like Jason Kidd!!!
Oh, and Tommy's teacher was the one who told me about the sippy cups. She saw it in the car when I was dropping him off at school, and basically told me I had to get rid of it immediately. And I did. I went straight to the store and bought him straw cups. Hey, I will do ANYTHING to improve his speech! I told mom and Mandie about it, and apparently, mom told you. So, you can blame it on me, especially if it doesn't work.

And didn't Kidd like either beat or cheat on his wife more than once? Come on, we need good quality people. Just because we're struggling at the end of this season doesn't mean we do something stupid and trade away all of our future talent for some old dude just to up our chances in the playoffs! I really don't want to give Jason Kidd that kind of satisfaction.
I love Devin Harris! SIGH.
Oh, and Mom did tell me what Tommy's teacher said, I only called Ginny for verification. I told our babysitter about it, too, because her kids are a bit delayed in their speech. Her daughter is in Abby's situation because she had a really bad ear infection for over a year. I'll post an update in a month or so and see if it helps. I'll be curious if it helps Tommy too!
Hope you all feel better soon and that Ben doesn't get sick. Madyson is JUST NOW starting to get totally better...she has been sick since the day Zayn was born! 10 days ago! She lost so much weight but finally ate somewhat normal today! Hope to see you soon!
My poor Devin Harris...I love him! And I'm convinced the Mavs aren't even gonna make it to the playoffs with Kidd, making them look like the biggest morons ever.
And I hope you don't get sick, Missy! I'm in the same boat of feeling like it's only a matter of time.
I love that the Mavs are making this trade, and I love that the Suns traded for Shaq. Now we just need the Spurs to trade away Tony Parker for Spud Webb. Go Lakers!
I love Devin Harris, too, and this trade leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm relieved that it's done, though, because the limbo has been hard to deal with! I REALLY hope the Mavs don't live to regret this. Devin Harris seems like such a good guy on top of being a good basketball player. What a mess!
It's a Nikon 8700. It's about 3 years old. It's barely been used. Let me know if anyone wants to buy it. We were just going to take it to a camera shop to sell it.
Sorry you're feeling sick now, too, Missy! It is NOT fun--I missed 2 days of work, and probably should have missed more, but I didn't feel like I could. I hope you'll recover quickly. Surely, all that vitamin C and Zicam should help.

I am glad John is feeling better but sorry you aren't quite up to par. Best of luck keeping your home germ free. It has been a terrible flu season.
Also, I had not heard about sippy cups being linked to delayed speach...but it makes sense. I will have to regulate little Carson's time on the sippy cup.
