Our Gulf Coast Weekend #1
Here's how our weekend went down:
Friday we had planned to leave around 12 or 12:30 putting us in Galveston around dinner time. Of course the best laid plans never happen how you expect them to. And me being a planner by nature doesn't like that at ALL. We ended up on the road by 2pm and made our way down. We got stuck in crazy awful traffic because of an accident that pretty much had the freeway shut down in Conroe, just outside of Houston. My sister had sat on the freeway in that accident for over two hours. We were lucky that we took an alternate route and the accident cleared by the time we got to it. Ben was awesome there and on the drive back. We really appreciated how good he can be on this trip!
We were meeting the Grundbergs in Galveston so we could all have dinner together. Though our plan was to meet around 6, it ended up being after 7:30pm. We went to Gaidos, a really nice seafood restaurant right on Seawall and had so much fun. We were quite the spectacle with me, John, Ben, Mandie, Brian, Abby, Carter, Jenny, Steven, Stevie and David. We stayed and talked so late all the kids were exhausted!
Fortunately, the Grundbergs only live about 30 minutes inland so the drive back to their place was quick. They were gracious enough to let us spend the night at their house so we could get the boys together and chat. We had so much fun! All the kids pretty much went right to sleep and we stayed up till after midnight. I was so sad that we didn't get to do our photoshoot on the beach as planned and that I took NO pictures of us at all! I don't know what I was thinking! So, Jenny, I totally owe you! You were a fabulous hostess!
Saturday we got donuts and hung around while Ben, Stevie and David all played with trains and then headed out during a downpour to go to my nephews house. My sinuses were killing me starting on Friday so Saturday I was so stuffy I could hardly breathe! I was pretty miserable. Luckily Ben fell asleep in the car on our way up to Pearland and went right back to sleep at Kenny and Texas' house. We played Wii, at lunch then headed to the beach after the kids woke up and got acclimated enough to head to Galveston.
I definitely documented our beach fun. It was Ben's first time at the beach as well as my sister Melinda's kids first time in the ocean too! Her kids took to the beach much quicker than Ben did, but that was no surprise!
After the beach, we had dinner at Fudruckers and the drive through the heart of Galveston brought back so many memories from when I was little. It's such a quicky fun place, I'd love to stroll the streets and the harbor side of the island. We just might have to go back later this year! Ben fell asleep in the car around 7:45 on the way back to Kenny and Texas' (even though it poured down rain on our way there) and slept till 7 the next morning! Man. That was a good night sleep!
I'll post more pictures from Sunday later!
Thanks for posting pictures Missy! I have been sad about not being able to go down so when I woke up in the middle of the night, I got excited when I thought about the possibility of you posting. You are great! And it looks like a wonderful time! I am glad Ben was good for you!
The trip looks like it was a blast, and the beach! Oh, the beach is a calling to me! I think we may have to follow in your footsteps and get our bootys downthere!
Those pictures REALLY make me want to head to a beach!
How fun! Glad you got to enjoy a weekend with family and friends!! Awesome pictures!
It looks like you guys had a great time. I'm glad that Ben decided to like the beach. The first time we took Imogen, she sat on the beach chair the entire week, and she screamed every time we tried to get her in the water.
we had a great time! come again anytime!
I'm glad ya'll had a good trip and got those wonderful pictures. And I totally want to squeeze that new baby.
