Feeling Generous

Last night we had a knock on our door, sometime after 7:30. Of course we glance around at Christmas stuff everywhere and a suitcase still out (I hate unpacking) wondering who in the WORLD would be coming to our house. So I peek through the peep hole and think it could be my visiting teacher so John takes his gun he'd been working on and goes to the bedroom and I answered the door. Turns out it's one of our neighbors who had brought us banana bread! Her name is Ruthie and her and her husband got married a little while after we moved in and they're probably close to our same age. She was so nice and talked about how they'd been watching Ben grow up and how cute he was. I told her my middle name was Ruth and she thought that was really cool.

We've had a love/hate relationship with this neighbor. The husband lived there before we moved in and we'd exchange nods and waves every now and then. One day when I was pregnant with Ben our home teacher came over and he happened to park in my spot. So knowing he wouldn't be there very long, I parked in the spot next to him, which happened to belong to this neighbor. Well I forgot to move my car after our home teacher left and awoke to a mean note on my car the next morning from said neighbor. Something about how it wasn't fair that our friends got to park in his spot and his visitors parked where they were supposed to blah blah blah. John was so mad. Cut a pregnant girl a break once in a while, okay? You won't make friends that way!

So I'm sure that Ruthie wouldn't have let him put that note on my car if they'd been married at the time so I'll forgive him. We'll probably send over some goodies as a thank you before Christmas and might even invite them over for dinner and John will probably have to resist the urge to punch him in the face (KIDDING).

On the generous note, my work does Secret Santas every year. I opted out last year since I was so new and we really didn't have a lot of money. Doing it this year has been a lot of fun! One of the presents I received a week or so ago included this cute little bookmark. But I don't read a lot. I don't read as much as I wish I did and frankly I've never used a bookmark! I'm assuming it is, in fact, a bookmark so if I'm stupid please inform me as to what it really is. Anwyay, I'd love for this really cute bookmark to go to someone who will actually use it. Someone obviously took some time in making (or buying) it. I don't feel bad about giving it away because I'm sure it'll receive a lot more love than I have time to give! (And yes the bookmark is on a way way cute scarf a secret santa gave me when I worked at D, I thought it was only fitting.)

May 24, 2002? I just had to see if I got the date right.... Plus, I love being reminded of those days when we were roommates!

Girl, you've GOT to polish those fingernails! Whatever. I haven't polished mine in MONTHS! I'm glad that you're getting to know your neighbors better and I'm assuming that it's a bookmark, too. Cute.

Definitely good times! I'm glad we had the chance to live together for a while. And I love to read, so I'll be happy for a cute bookmark!

It looks like a bookmark to me, too. And it is really cute. (I'm just sad I wasn't the first one to reply with the correct date.)

How is it possible that you have never used a bookmark? Do you mean you have just used things like receipts or scraps of paper that you found around?

Missy  – (December 17, 2008 10:17 AM)

I usually use the flap of cover of the book I'm reading as a bookmark. Or I dogear corners if it's a paperback. Is that so wrong?

I usually use whatever scrap of paper I have nearby--a receipt or a sticky note, usually. I can't stand to dogear the pages, for some reason, and if the book is too thick, I worry I'll mess up t he cover. I hate to see a book get injured like that, although I do plenty of damage, anyway.

I never polish my fingernails, and probably never will. Unless I someday have a maid to do all my work for me... Cute bookmark. It's too bad Marianne couldn't stick around and be your thumb twin.
