home improvement
Over the weekend John took a rare two days off, especially for summer time. He originally intended to take it off so that we could go to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and then we decided to do some things around the house that we've been needing time to do for a long time (so we can finally get our house on the market). While we didn't get to everything we originally planned we still got so much done and John got some much needed relaxation.
Friday before last my sisters Ginny and Melinda came up to help me finish our master bathroom. I'm going to take better pictures of them when we put our house on the market, but here's a glimpse of the framing we did around the mirror and new baseboards. We also replaced a couple of hollow tiles and tiled around where the toilet goes.
Then while John was home we got new countertops, a new kitchen sink and a new toilet for our bathroom. We had intended to tile the kitchen, too but there was a delay on the counter tops with the guy that was helping us install them but they're in and they look so good! Anything was better than the original beige counters we had. And we got a new stainless sink.
New pretty countertops!
This weekend reiterated the fact that my husband is freakishly strong! He carried the toilet we bought up our extremely steep flight of stairs all by himself! The guy installing our counters was like "You carried that up here without any help?" Then we went by his work to pick up some bags of sand to weigh the counters down while the glue was drying and he carried two 50lb bags of sand up the stairs at a time. I can't even pick up ONE bag of sand myself! It totally sucks we're doing all this work to sell our condo not for ourselves, but we really want to buy a new house so we are going to do what we need to sell it.
We also got to go see the midnight showing of Harry Potter!! Any of you who know me know how much we LOVE Harry Potter at our house. We've gone to the last two midnight showings and we were not going to miss this one! We decided to go to the double feature and see the last two movies back to back and that was probably the best idea ever. Partly because I love Part 1 and because we weren't subjected to standing in line for absurd amounts of time.
We were hesitant about going to see the double feature because Part 2 was supposed to be in 3D. But when we bought our tickets they told us neither was in 3D. So, of course when we got there we had 3D glasses laying on our seats which meant the show was going to be 3D. I was kind of bummed but it was okay because they were the coolest 3D glasses ever! Aren't we such dorks?
One of the best things about getting to go to see Harry Potter was my awesome sister Ginny. She decided to host "Cousin Camp" for all of the kids in the family who are potty trained. That included Ben so we left Shelby with my mom. But let me tell you, Ginny is super brave volunteering to take 9 kids ages 9 and under plus one baby from 1pm on Thursday till 6pm on Friday! And that means we go to see Harry Potter with some of our favorite people (Nikki, Randi, CJ, Chrystal, Gideon, Julie and Tenok). Now, the 2nd half of the movie was interrupted by the person 3 rows behind us who snored through the entire rest of the movie! We are definitely going to go see it again!
Your condo is looking great! I love the color in your bathroom! We are finishing up our house and putting it on the market too. :( So sad, but this new baby just kind of threw us for a loop! Anyway, I wanted to ask you how much you would charge to come over and take pictures of our house. Not necessarily for the listing, but for our memories. I am so so so sad to be leaving it!
We talk about buying a new house all the time to get Ben used to the idea. A couple of weeks ago he was telling me that when we buy a new house someone is going to live in this one. I told him that, yes, someone else would be living here and not us. Then he told me he would be sad that he'd never be able to go to our old house again. We'll miss this place, too, but I'm sure for Ben it will be short-lived when we have SPACE.
I'll email you about pictures, Regina! Where are you guys looking for a new place?
It looks really good! I love it when bathroom mirrors are framed. It makes things look so much cleaner I think.
That frame around the mirror looks great. I never would have thought of that. We also saw the movie, and it was great. I wish we could have done the double feature thing.
I'm officially jealous. Clark and I are going on a trip for our anniversary trip in 2 weeks and we decided to wait for HP until then. So I'm dying to see it. The apartment looks great!
