Frozen Kool-Aid

A couple of weeks ago I came across this recipe by Pioneer Woman. Looks good, right? Well, yesterday afternoon Ben was grumpy (it's the heat, I swear, we're cooped up and grumpy a lot!) so I was trying to think of something fun we could do. So I pulled out a package of strawberry kool-aid and decided to make a kool-aid version of PW's recipe. I made the kool-aid almost to the package instructions, with a little more sugar and a little less water. The water I used was from the fridge, so it was ice cold and I could have even put less water than I did to make the slush more concentrated.

I poured it into a 9x13 glass pan just like PW and stuck it in the freezer. I checked it every 15 or 20 minutes to keep it from freezing too hard in the pan. PW has good recommendations on how to do that and it worked great. By the time we got home from the store around 7 it was a perfectly iced up pan of sweet goodness.

To make it even better, fill up a cup with it about halfway then pour soda on top. John added Mountain Dew to it and it was awesome. You could also use sprite or ginger ale as well and it would be great for a party. I made a punch kind of like this for a baby shower once and this was extremely similar tasting but with half the effort of the other punch! Next time I might add some pineapple juice into the kool aid or do it with some other fruit juices so it's not a cup full of sugar!
