Another Movie Review(s): Russell Crowe
I've decided that Russell Crowe only makes beautifully depressing movies. Over the weekend John and I watched two of his movies that came on tv, A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man. John and I have seen A Beautiful Mind before, we went to UTA to watch it on the grass by the Activities building.. I wasn't sure then how John would like it, but he did. We hadn't seen it again until yesterday and it was just as good, if not better, than I remember. I only caught the second half, but I forget what a great actor Russell Crowe is and how touching that movie is. Even his Nobel Speech at the end made John tear up! Here's my favorite quote: "My quest has taken me through the physical, the metaphysical, the delusional—and back. And I have made the most important discovery of my career, the most important discovery of my life: It is only in the mysterious equations of love that any logic or reasons can be found. " I love this movie even though it's hard to watch sometimes because you feel so bad for John Nash, but feel even worse for his wife. If you haven't seen it, take a couple of hours and watch it!
It must have been Russell Crowe day on TNT because Cinderella Man came on right after it. I told John we should dvr it because I'd heard it was really good, but we just ended up watching most of it because Ben was asleep. And again, this movie is beautiful and depressing all at the same time! If you don't know the story line it's about a boxer during the depression who gets his boxing license revoked after a bad match and who has to beg and get shifts at the dock to provide for his family. The on chance he's given one fight and that amazing win reboosts his career. It's like Rocky but with more depth and better acting. You'll fall in love with his three kids, one of whom steals a salami from the butcher because one of his friends was sent away because his family couldn't afford to feed him and he didn't want to be sent away. It is heartbreaking! I'm really not into boxing/fighting movies, but I had tears streaming down my face at the end. Partly because I really liked Renee Zellweger in this movie and she was totally believable as his wife and was really good. And I love Paul Giamatti in anything and he was great too!
I've seen Gladiator a few times on tv and it, too, is a really beautiful movie. I really like Russell Crowe and hope he continues to make really beautiful, depressing movies!
We love all those movies as well!!! I saw it was coming on TV all weekend as well but we own two of the three so I didn't take the time to watch it. Hope you're doing well!!
I can't handle beautifully depressing movies! I would have to watch an up-beat, funny movie right after I watch them!
Russell Crow is a really good actor. I like that his movies are typically thought provoking.
Russell is one of the best actors around. Love him. These are both really good movies. I'm glad ya'll had some good down time!
Russell is fantastic. I loved Cinderella Man! And A Beautiful Mind and Gladiator are really good, too.
(I'm a fan of beautifully depressing movies.)
