A New Tradition

John came up with a really great idea last night. See, I got him listening to the Christmas station and got him hooked! I love Christmas music. It makes me all warm and cheery and sometimes teary! So John thought it would be fun to exchange compilation Christmas CDs for each other every year on his birthday since it's so close (tomorrow). So we both stayed up way too late last night on iTunes finding really great Christmas music. I think one of my absolute favorites is on the new Josh Groban CD "Noel." He does Oh Come All Ye Faithful with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (and the Temple Square Orchestra, too, I think!) And let me just say, it's amazing! For some reason I just love it when people sing with the MoTab, it just reinforces how special they are.

I think, sadly, the funnest song I got for John is Ludachrismas. It's just SO ghetto and funny. It's not available on iTunes, but I found it on someone's website to download! There's so much really great Christmas music. Here are some of my favorites:

Oh Come All Ye Faithful—Josh Groban & MoTab
O Nata Lux—(any acapella chorale)
Silent Night—Boyz II Men
Hallelujah Chorus—MoTab
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas—Frank Sinatra
Oh Holy Night—Martina McBride
All I Want For Christmas is You—Mariah Carey
I'll Be Home For Christmas—Josh Groban (he has messages from soldiers in Iraq and it's so sweet!)
Santa Clause is Comin' to Town—The Pointer Sisters
Star of Bethlehem—Home Alone Soundtrack
Carol of the Bells—Home Alone Soundtrack

That's just to name a few! I'd love to know everyone's favorites!

what a good idea! My all time favorite get up and boogie Christmas song is Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree from Home Alone (that movie is SUCH a classic!) My favorite hymn type ones are normally any version of O Holy Night, and Carol of the Bells. Keith LOVES TransSiberian Orchestra :)

Hey, could I get a copy of that CD? All that music sounds great! Amanda got the Josh Groban CD for her birthday, and played it for us and that song is awesome!

Sure! I'd love to. Maybe I will make you another compilation CD like before, Christmas-style. It's about time probably anyway!

I have the Josh Groban Noel CD and I LOVE it, and I LOVE his version of Oh Holy Night--it is my all-time favorite Christmas carol, and I feel like he sings it perfectly.

Other than that, I am just a Christmas junky, I love Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and a lot of the crooners singing Christmas songs, and I like some of the "alternative" Christmas songs, too!

That's such a good idea. And happy birthday, John.

I am a big dork because my favorite Christmas song is Jingle Bells by Barbara Streisand. But I am addicted to the Christmas station too. It makes me happy and cheery and sometimes teary too. :-)

I love the Transiberian Orchestra but also love the Amy Grant song: Breath of Heaven.

Can I steal a copy too?! I listen to Christmas songs in my car all the time when I am running errands and then when I am at home too! I'd love a CD of those songs!!

I love Josh Groban!!! His "O Holy Night" is amazing.
I really like listening to some of the fun peppy Christmas songs, too. One of my all-time favorite Christmas songs is "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas". John Denver and The Muppets a Christmas Together is great.
There is also a band from Dallas called Space Cadet that has an "up-beat" version of Silent Night that you can listen to on their myspace page.

I gotta say that I HATE motab. I know, I'm probably the only one, but I do. Nice choices when it comes to Home Alone songs, but you should've gotten MORE from that movie!
