Things I Learned This Weekend
1. I have a freakishly strong husband. Okay I already knew that. But we were blessed to get my aunt's pretty much brand new washing machine and dishwasher because the insurance company was going to replace them anyway and they aren't allowed to sell them. The dryer was gas otherwise we would have taken it, too. John carried both the washer and dishwasher up our flight of stairs on Friday afternoon all by himself. Then he took our old washer and loaded it in my grandpa's old truck and drove it to Mansfield for my sister to take to her daughter in Austin. Like I said, crazy strong. (I'll have pics of the new stuff soon.)
2. Birthday parties for kids are really parties for parents. I swear I love kids parties because somehow all of the kids pretty much play with each other and it always leaves time for parents to chat and not to have to worry about what their kids are doing. And the kids get so excited over the smallest presents. Stevie Grundberg's b-day was a blast. We were excited to get to go and Stacie was a great hostess!
3. Sleeping at home by yourself sucks. Especially when you fall asleep on the couch watching Oceans 11 and wake up at 1:30 and drag yourself into bed. I was glad John got to go to the camp out with the scouts, though. I hear they caught lots of fish!
4. RedBox is great. Unless you realize on Saturday you forgot to return last week's movies. And when you return them you, of course, have to rent two more. The verdict? 10,000 B.C. was actually pretty good (people on IMDB sure hated it though!) And Forbidden Kingdom wasn't worth the $1 it cost to rent it (but what do I know? I fell asleep less than halfway into it!)
5. Watching car accidents happen in real life is, well, surreal. We were late leaving for church and as we were driving on Lamar in front of Whole Foods a white Prius thinking it had the right-of-way tried to turn across our lanes of traffic and a blue Blazer a few cars in front of us couldn't stop. It smashed into the Prius, went air born for a few seconds and skidded to a halt on its side. We immediately stopped our car at the light and John ran over to help get the guy out of his car. He was bleeding profusely from his head. The police came pretty quickly and we left after a few minutes. It was pretty scary. The whole time Ben was pointing at John saying "Daddy helping! Daddy helping!" He was so proud. :)
6. Kelli is the easiest person I know to design for. And that's a good thing because she has such specific taste and style. Anyone who knows her probably does what I do and when you're out shopping come across things and say "Kelli would totally love that." Which is why doing her new blog design was so much fun. There's still a bit of tweaking to be had, but it still pretty much amazing (if I do say so myself).
7. Tony Romo rocks. I think that's all I pretty much have to say. Sure they didn't play as good as they could have, but to still beat the Packers 27-16 and for Romo to be the first QB to win at Lambeau? Makes being a Cowboy fan totally worth it. And next weekend Ben will be sporting his new #9 Tony Romo jersey! Thanks, Mom! (pics on that to come, too!)
8. Prepping for family pics in a month means I get to buy new clothes for Ben. Like this. And these. And this (for $1.48 I might add!) And a couple of other things from Baby Gap that are out of stock now. I love buying clothes for Ben. Really cute, affordable boys clothes are not easy to come by. Which is why I love Target, and sales at Old Navy and the Gap!
9. Ben can count to 14. He can also recite nearly the entire alphabet and knows most of the days of the week (though if you ask him on any given day what day it is he will tell you it's Tuesday). Also, his new favorite thing to do is reenact scenes from Harry Potter and the Camber of Secrets. He makes his cars fly around "looking for the train" and then they crash onto his Thomas train tracks. It really is cute to see him remember things so well and have so much fun playing with his toys. He really is learning a lot at preschool, too! We couldn't be happier. Now if only he'd learn how to follow directions from his teacher...
Haha, I love all your points! Super cute clothes for Ben, I love clearance! And I have to completely agree on number 6, I find myself "finding" things for Kelli whenever I shop!
Way to go Ben! He's ready for kindergarden! No, seriously, he is! Anna knew only half of her alphabet and could count to 20, but didn't know the days of the week when she first started kinder. She's a fast learner, though, and reads on almost a 5th grade level! The clothes are cute, and the blog design is cute and funky. And we all knew that John was strong! Enjoy your new appliances!
I love those clothes! I've almost bought that black shirt a dozen times, but always talk myself out of it, waiting for the sale. Ben is gonna be so hip. I agree on #3 - when Bryce is working, it's the worst quality sleep ever and it just feels WEIRD. And thanks again for #6 - I love the blog design, and I love that you think of me when out and about!
We watched that 10,000 BC this past week, too! And it wasn't bad at all...of course at the end I was getting ticked b/c they were making it look like the chick died...Even James had to agree that ALL that dude went thru, to then have her die...totally not fair. AND we liked making fun of the "elders"...the immortal dude.
Bravo on Kelli's blog....very, very cute!
You're such a good shopper! Ben is one of the best dressed kids around.
Tony Romo does rock! I was so excited to see him win yesterday.
And I love what you said about birthday parties being for the parents as much as the kids. I was so excited to go to the party to get to visit with all the other adults there. That's one thing that stinks about having your kids get older. I have to actually invite who they want instead of being able to invite whoever I want. (I just have to keep telling myself it is their birthday...)
That is for sure the one thing I DO know about john- he is sooo strong and #2- he will do anything for anybody at the drop of a hat!! I can't believe the car accident!! and such cute clothes!! You totally read my mind about the very places I shop!!! sales at gap and old navy and LOVE target!!! Maybe my goal right now should be trying to save some money for the 5D!?? no way- my husband is in school.....maybe in 5 years.
I'm glad that you and Ben made it to the party! It was fun to see how much Ben has grown- he is no longer the Baby Ben that I have pictured in my head! Oh, and you did a great job on Kelli's blog!
So that's what Ben was doing with the flying car on Sunday! I didn't make the Harry Potter connection....
seriously, i had so much fun at the party, I didn't even notice there were any kids there. (ha!!!)
Thank you so much for coming and wow, those clothes are so nice! David is totally stylin'!
