The Best of 2008

Taking a cue from two of my sisters, I'm going to post a list of some of my favorite things of 2008!

Photobucket
1. Coldplay, Viva la Vida album. This should come as no surprise. The more John and I listen to this CD the more we love it! Great songs like this and this.
2. Ben Folds, Cologne. Album is a bit too explicit, but this is a really pretty song!
3. Missy Higgins, The Special Two and Where I Stood.
4. Weezer, Red Album. Lots of great songs on this album, particularly Pork & Beans and Heart Songs.
5. Death Cab for Cutie, I Will Possess Your Heart. So cool.
(There are lots of others I could add to this list, but these are ones I listen to most often!)

1. Iron Man. Such a GREAT movie. Did you know there's another clip at the end of the credits? Of course they have the longest credits ever, but it's a fun snippet for the next one!
2. Dark Knight. I know this movie was way over hyped at it's release and I thought for sure that Heath Ledger's performance wouldn't live up. But it really did. Awesome movie. Still like the 1st one better though!
3. What Happens in Vegas. This movie didn't do well at the box office, but for a chick flick it's really great. Even John liked it. We may even buy it!
4. Kung Fu Panda. It's not Pixar and I'm not sure I'll even add Wall-E to this list. But as much as I liked Wall-E I really really liked Kung Fu Panda. That's saying a lot because I can't even count on two fingers the number of Dreamworks movies that I like. Shrek? Blech! Plus, Ben loves this movie too!
5. Wall-E. Okay so I'll put Wall-E on this list. I still have LOTS and LOTS of issues with this movie on a myriad of levels, but Wall-E is one of the most adorable characters Pixar ever created. And it's so beautiful. Pixar, you're on watch. Here's to hoping your next one isn't so weird! And full of holes! And actually makes sense! Oh, and I'm so hoping that Toy Story 3 is just as good as the first two (but we'll have to wait till 2010 for to find out!)
6. Definitely, Maybe. I have to add one more to the list. I wouldn't have ever seen this movie if Kelli hadn't let me borrow it. It's so cute and adorable and made me cry and is just really great. We love Abigail Breslin from Nim's Island. See this movie, it's so good!

1. The Arlington Highlands. We've trekked there a few times last year and if South Arlington traffic wasn't so bad we'd probably go there more often. Full of stores, tons of restaurant choices, lots of cool events. That place is so great for Arlington!
2. The New Cowboys Stadium. I know it's not open yet, but we see it so often and go to the CiCi's across the street all the time and it's a magnificent sight. The place looks like some sort of weird space station and though we're completely dreading the influx of traffic over the next few years, the fact that they're FIXING I-30 and lots of other stuff around us is worth the inconveniences!
3. aLoft hotels. Okay so we stayed here in 2009, but we discovered it in 2008 so that counts, right? Great hotel, great price (especially since it's a W hotel) and we had a great time. It's just cool. Totally not kid friendly (except for the few they have around the US that are suites designed for families), but we'd definitely stay there again. They just need ice machines on the floors and FREE continental breakfast.
4. Canon Cameras. I've had my camera since June and I love it. LOVE it. I'm really glad I chose Canon. They're so easy to use and once you learn the specifics of aperture, etc, it makes taking pictures so much fun. I'm learning more about lenses now and buying only Canon lenses. I'm a Canon Girl through and through. You'd be hard pressed to convince me otherwise. We're now on the hunt for a really great point and shoot that doesn't have to be Canon (one that hopefully would do HD video). If anyone has advice let me know. We have a few in mind, but they're a bit pricey!
5. The Year 2008. I scrolled through our blog last night looking over the past year and we did so much! We celebrated 5 years of marriage, got Ben off his pacifier, reconnected with old friends, grown closer to other friends, went camping with a 2-year old, went to a Stars game for free, went to Ben's first Ranger's game, saw a Prophet pass away and a new one called, went to Fossil Rim and Disney on Ice, spent tons of time with family and friends and each other, got a Wii, taken lots and lots of pictures, got ouf family pictures taken finally, watched Ben grow and learn in more ways than we ever thought possible, tried to potty train (still working on that), went on some fun road trips, enjoyed my job and realize how much more time we have together because of it, celebrated birthdays in really fun ways (hello Coldplay and my mom's crazy family birthday extravaganza!) and all in all we just really had an awesome year last year! It was fun to look back on what all we've done and accomplished in a year. Here's to an even better 2009!

Agree on any? Totally disagree on any others? What are your favorites?

Your music style is way too mellow for me, although the songs aren't too bad.
I loved Iron Man and Dark Knight! Those were 2 really great movies. I didn't like Wall-E (my kids didn't care for it) and my kids didn't like Kung Fu Panda, although I thought it was cute. Tommy totally went to bed in the middle of it!
The Cowboys stadium is cool, except I wish it were in Dallas! Stupid Laura Miller.
2008 was just an okay year for us. There were good times as well as bad. Good times - going to Galveston, Danny getting the interim position, Ella Mae baby-sitting, Tommy playing soccer, Anna's first sleep-over. Bad times - potty-training Tommy, Tommy's PPCD teachers, Mr. C leaving Carpenter, trips to the ER, cancer scares, Jane (Anna's best friend) moving to New Mexico. I'm hoping for a better year this year!

You mean "a better 2009" right? lol

Ha. Thanks, Mubeen! :) I always have SUCH a hard time adjusting to the new date for some reason...

Arlington Highlands IS cool. We make an excuse to go there whenever we can. One of my favorite things to do there is get a potbelly to share with the kids and walk around that main fountain area, it is just so pretty in the warmer weather!

I still need to see Wall-E all the way through, but what I saw was pretty out there and FUNNY. And YAY for a new toy story, somehow the kids got wind of it, and they can't wait!

Oh, and you don't have to even ASK if we are excited about the new stadium! That thing is going to be awesome!

I still need to hear the Coldplay album, and the Ben Folds one, too. Love Weezer Red Album, and am singing Pork & Beans in my head as I type. LOVE LOVE Death Cab for Cutie - all of it.

Iron Man - awesome, and Robert Downey Jr. is indescribably awesome in everything he does. Dark Knight - awesome. LOVE Wall-E. Definitely Maybe one of my favorites.

I need another descriptor besides "awesome."

You should also check out Prospekts March, the new LP from Coldplay. It has songs that did not make it onto Viva La Vida and a remix of Lost! with Jay-z.

Lots of good stuff! I love Death Cab for Cutie. And Ironman was one of my favorite movies of the year, too. The new Cowboys Stadium is going to be so amazing when it opens! I'm so excited about all the stuff that is happening because of it (like fixing I-30). I hate to say it, but I'm really not a fan of The Highlands. It's not awful, but it could have been so much better. I much prefer Southlake Town Square.
